The Photo Hut - Thursday

Liz was feeling a lot better after the last two weeks and had decided to try and do some inventory while she was feeling up to it before she sat down to work on the computer.

After she went through the store inventory and changed around some of the front display items, she sat down at the computer to do finish catching up on her spreadsheets, making note of the inventory and what new stock needed to be ordered. After that was spending the rest of the morning catching up on the admin work that she had missed over the last couple of weeks and that was keeping her pretty busy.

...And The One Time It Was A Draw, Thursday, Per. 1

Their last class together. Liliana wasn't particularly sentimental, but she would miss a class devoted to ranting about someone she particularly loathed. There had been minimal prep needed, mostly just making sure she had a thermos of warm tea and sometimes some maps. That would change next semester, and she enjoyed the ease while she had it.

But then the clock showed nine am. "Welcome to our last class," she greeted. "This is also going to be the class with the least information, sadly. There are many, many holes in this section of the historical record, in no small part because nearly everybody died." Nice, cheery place to start.

The final battle )

"And that, darlings, was five times Urza ruined everything, and the one time it was a draw. Though, I do want to make it perfectly clear - this is not a full recounting of everything horrible Urza has ever done. It's not even a full recounting of everything Urza has done that we have records of. It's just a high-level overview of the stuff that we had time for this session. Anyone interested in further stories of his many, many, many atrocities will just have to buy me a drink sometime."

Fandom Island Museum, Thursday Daytime

Steven came into the Museum more subdued than normal. Not that there was anything wrong with him per se. He'd had a lovely week so far. And in theory the last thing that had happened to him at the Museum was a nice and incredibly helpful conversation with Liliana (herself so nice and incredibly helpful.)

It was just, you know, before.

So Steven was there, barring time for Stark's class in the morning, doing his work behind the Welcome Desk, and being...

Cautious, was all. Aware.

One might even say twitchy.

He was fine, really.

Did you wanna know how expensive Legos were as a hobby? Really freakin' expensive. Danny was very much regretting his suggestion that Steve try those out in his slightly forced retirement hobby.

Not enough to change it when Steve actually seemed pretty interested. But. Close.

"How many boats can you even build here?" he muttered under his breath, shamelessly researching this while at work.

Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday mid-morning

It was going to be impossible to compete with the ocean yeeting from last week, so Anakin went in a completely different direction today, with twelve individual tables set up around the park. On the tables were an electric hot plate (plugged in via extension cords that were definitely tripping hazards), a small bowl, a pot that didn't sit level, a coffee mug, a dull chef's knife, a metal soup spoon, a spatula, a chopping board, and a plate.

In the center of the clearing was one rice cooker, one microwave, one ice cream maker, and a variety of fruits and vegetables. There were protein choices inside the fridge under the table holding the small appliances.

Anakin, wearing an Kiss the Cook (but tacky) apron, waved at the incoming victims inhabitants as they arrived. "Today we're mastering the art of cooking in a dormitory. Well, a dormitory not as good as the ones here. Cooking in a bad bachelor apartment! Using only the equipment I have provided, make a savory dish that would impress a first date. You'll have an hour. Halfway through I will pair you up and you will work together to make a dessert. Listen for your name and come grab your apron!"

Fandom Radio, Wednesday 8/20

Another Wednesday and more notes for me to read. As always. We’ll start with the school where classes are ending.

(Even More) American National Park Tours with Sam Eagle did not tour any parks at all today but instead had a test and watched TV? All right. Paintball! did not go well for me, again, but it went well for Cal. Again.

*chittering*

Quiet.

And then there was Beach! where there was a beach party which may have been a crime or may have been many crimes since we learned last week that nearly everything is a beach crime.

Nothing from the dorms again. Sorry, porg. Perhaps tomorrow. Or today, for tomorrow? So now we have the town.

Marc was at Jeff, God of Biscuits, looking for treats for people. I offered some…advice, I suppose, on that. And Harley came in looking for sweets and found Marc instead and they talked. I hope it helped.

Ignis was at the diner, as usual. Because that’s what he does on Tuesdays. And he left after Liliana arrived because that is what they do on Tuesdays.

*chittering*

I suppose sometimes they stay there, yes, but they leave eventually.

At Atlas Gym, Gladio was…detangling gremlins? I…that seems unwise. How did they get wrapped up in so much ribbon anyway?

Tino was offering movie ideas to Kitty at Caritas. I have to agree with Kitty. Tino’s ideas are not good ones.

That seems to be all from yesterday for today.

Furnado Animal Shelter; Wednesday [08/20].

There were three absolutely adorable new bunnies at the shelter this week, which meant that Prompto had a great opportunity to work with Noctra on getting them all set up and teaching her things about rabbits and what they needed, about why they may (or may not!) make a good pet for a person, and for her to actively be involved in all of that. She was a bit more invested in petting the bunnies and giving them new names and making up stories about them (most of them involving adventures to find carrots), but that was fine, too! Prompto wanted Furnado days to be educational, yes, but one of his favorite things ever was the chance to really give Noctra the chance to explore her imagination....mostly because he got to play around and explore his own imagination, too.

And he was definitely preparing himself for at least a week of Noctra wanting to wear bunny ears and hop around everywhere they went, too, and that was also great, because he could already see how much it would tire her out to make her more susceptible to naps. Also, if she ended up wanting to eat more carrots, too? Also great!

Win/win all around!

Furnado is open!

Fandom Library, Wednesday, August 20th

Twas the last week of classes and all through the room,
The aide was found cleaning, with dustrag and broom.
The books were all shelved with precision and care;
In wait for the new year which soon would be there.
The surfaces were scrubbed, now all sparkly and bright;
The gremlins in timeout for starting a fight.
Whence from the stacks there arose such a clatter,
The aide jumped three feet, yelling, "Yo, what's the matter?"
Suspicious as always, towards the clamor she crept,
Was it perhaps her big brother, falling down as he slept?
Or maybe a bat gotten lost in the sauce,
Or perhaps 'twas a student, or Belle, or her boss!
More noises came, a thump, a SLAM! and a rattle--
Perhaps were some alots locked in battle?
The aide peeped 'round, and saw at 5 feet at most,
None of those things, but a terrible g-g-g-ghost!
She squeaked out a curse, her eyes open wide,
And flew to her desk, away that spectre who'd died!
She turned and she fled, with the ghost right behind;
"Slow down," it moaned, "I'm paying a fine!"
The aide shook her head, and to a halt she did skid,
And turned and looked closely, "Why--you're just a kid!"
"Yes," it wailed, "and I find I can't rest,
"Not until I've paid off, all ten of my debts.
"I loved to read greatly, any book fell to hand,
"The libraries worked constant, to keep up with demand.
"But returning the books? Oh I was quite bad at that,
"And it turns out that heaven is run by stern bureaucrats.
"Who denied me my entrance till I had mended my way,
"Till all books returned and all debts be repaid."
"Goddess this island," the aide said, hand on her chin,
"Bring me your books and I'll check them all in."
The ghost cheered, "Yippee!" and brought her his books,
And waited with breath baited and upon tenterhooks,
To hear the sum total the amount that he owed,
And was shocked to see all the numbers zeroed.
"Wait," cried he, "You mean I owe not a dime?"
"I can move on--you mean it, it's finally time?"
"Sure is," said the aide, "so go with my blessing,
"Well, once you pick up those those books you were messing."
"Too late!" cried the spirit, "Bye now, I'm gone!
"You're on your own now, good luck, bye, so long!"
And the aide watched the soul vanish in bright light and rhymes,
Shook her head then grumbled, "I hate this island sometimes."

Sorry, students. It was the latter. Sam was like that.

And most things on it you’d never been taught. Sam was like that.

Sam was also watching more of the Ken Burns National Parks miniseries. He would not actually notice if you watched along with him. And it wasn’t like he was going to grade these exams. Come on.

Fandom Radio, Tuesday, August 19th

What up, Fandom, it's me, ya girl Arden Finch, and boy do I have some notes for you! Okay, so real talk, they're not really all the much different than our usual notes, but it's the last week of summer classes so we're hyping it up, okay?

So, last time reading this specific set of classes on this specific day of School...Teamwork simulated an invasion, suggesting people fight together as practice for when a real invasion happens. Which they do, sometimes, just as an FYI. 2 Creative 2 Problem had a comedy roast for their last session together. It says here that Cal came in last and...yeah, that tracks, actually. I bet he felt guilty the whole time. How To Waste Time On The Internet watched cat videos, a tried and true internet staple, and Destiny & Free Will got their fortunes told and then went to a casino in Monaco to see if they could thwart those destinies. Wait, Gray, were you allowed in that one? I thought that the whole family--

Never mind. Not important now. Anyway, no Dorms, but in Town, a number of folks were out and about. The Infinite Consortium was pretending to be the Wild West with an electro-lasso or something. Both Professor Vess and Dr. Blake knocked over a suit of armor, but then the squirrel wandered off. Pick Your Poison was once again undergoing an angry cleaning, which is one way to make sure that your place stays spotless. Ms. Nell was going through overpriced catalogues at Covent Garden Flowers - was it Williams-Sonoma? - at least until Steven - hi, Steven! - came in to drop off a friendship bracelet. Aww! That's sweet! And then they talk about how nice Professor--hmm. Really? Errr, anyway, Steven asked Ms. Nell if she'd help him come up with an interactive exhibit for the museum and they brainstormed about that for awhile. Pizza Planet was still delighting us with summer flavors, and at the Clinic, I guess Stabby was delighting Professor James Stark and the nurses with his tap dancing. Oooookayyyy.

Mr. Blackwood met up with Dr. Isley, Rey, and Lydia before they went off on a...shipping adventure? What?

*squirrely chittering*

Oh, a shopping adventure. Yeah, your handwriting sucks. There was a lot of strategizing and a fair bit of mimic potions, and then they all left looking they they just stepped out of a Glamour magazine photoshoot. Lydia was in a two piece pink outfit that showed her abdomen? Rey was in a sparkly gold miniskirt? Dr. Isley was 'backyard garden party but make it glam?' And Adrian was 'expensive Italian suits at discount taste'? What? Half of this, I don't even know what it means, and the other half, I'm not sure I believe. Anyway, uhh, I hope you had fun shopping?

The bee lady had the whole Trooper Station writing her bees individual thank you cards, except for Officer McGarrett and I can't really blame him for that. The park saw Ms. Pryde-Barton hosting a movie night for meta-for The Princess Bride. Raiden brought pizza, and he and Professor James talked about fresh fruit and delicious pizza. Ms. Solo-Fel had never seen the movie, where it was one of Ms. Nell's favorites, which she got to watch with Professor Amicita. Mr. Tiny was also there, for religious reasons, which left Mr. Northman to tend the bar at Devil's Nest, and Ms. Solo-Fel stopped by to make him make her a drink.

And that's it for radio! Now I gotta run off - it's my last chance to kick Cal's BLEEP in Paintball for the summer! So this is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off, and leaving you to enjoy Karliene's Become the Beast. Bye Fandom!

"It's our last class today," Steve said, and that explained why he was in full Captain America gear, including the shield. "So it's a free for all."

"Try to have fun and not get too competitive about it," Tony added like he wasn't in the Iron Man armor.

"Do not be sent to the clinic over it," Steve amended because he'd met the people in this class.

"And we'll hopefully see you all next semester!" Very different class. Veeeeeery different.

Tino had all sorts of ideas for movies for the upcoming weeks. Kitty had them planned, and she said so, but he was undeterred.

Which led to her saying a lot of things like, "I'm not sure anything rather NC-17 is family friendly?" or "No, we're not pulling a Death in a Fence series all night marathon."

It might be a long night.

Judging by the face they were attempt to set a massive pile of driftwood alight using last week's pamphlet as kindling, it was firey beach crime. Which would surely end well. Especially with the cooler of drinks and the stack of pointy sticks next to another cooler of various toastable snacks.

"Beach crime," Aphra shouted triumphantly as the flames took.

"Beach crime party," Isabela added, gesturing to the various coolers. "Invite all your friends."

My boss is working from home today and therefore I'm sooooort of working? So I'm bringing back a meme we haven't done since 2020.

There is a tradition in American high schools where you get to vote on who you think has the best smile, or is most likely to be President, or fall in a well and not be found for three days. This is that in meme form. This meme is open to all! Just post your own superlative category in a new thread and/or ping in with who you think should win that award. Be as crazy or serious as you like, but please let's keep it fun!

Answers are OOC, and feel free to add your own categories!

Most of Gladio's day was filled with the usual rounds to check on everything in the gym interspersed with taking care of some phone calls and clerical, administrative stuff in the office and several of his typical trips to the Cup NoodleTM claw machine in the lobby. But there was that one chunk of time in the afternoon where he could be found....detangling a ball of gremlins.

That's right. Detangling a ball of gremlins. It was the first time for a new ribbon rhythm dancing class for the gremlins in one of the classrooms, and it....did not go well. Somehow, they'd managed to get themselves all wrapped up in the ribbons and each other, leaving them irritable as he tried to help get them out.

He was half tempted to put on fencing gear for protection against ungrateful bites, but, sometimes, Gladio liked to live dangerously and take his chances.

Ignis's consistency in coming into work lately had been...well, quite frankly, very un-Ignis-like in its sporadic nature these days, but if his fellow diner staff thought that leniency was going to leak into the rest of his disposition when he did actually make it in, then they would be sorely mistaken.

However, despite that, he was fairly sure that the faint groan that accompanied his arrival that morning had very little to do with his actual presence, and more to do with a new factor being added to the betting board, based on the sound of shifting feet and squeaking markers.

Ignis himself, of course, wasn't going to comment unless any of them began that conversation, and would just stroll in as he always did, hitting up that coffee pot first and foremost before settling in to decide on a few good recipehs for the board.

Shit, there was something Arden wasn't good on in the sweets department, right? Vanilla maybe? Cream cheese?

Asking was cheating so of course Marc wasn't going to do that. Instead he was going to stare at what was on offer and see if inspiration came to him. Either that or he'd bribe the person behind the counter to come up with something. One of those.

Trooper Station, Monday, August 18

Steve had been here every day, RL just got busy was back at the office after the weekend and returned just in time to answer the phone that the Troopers had been very obviously avoiding.

Ralph muttered something under his breath about that being Steve's funeral and that was the only warning Steve had before the Bee Lady was giving him an earful about their heartlessness in overlooking National Honeybee Day.

When she finally took a breath, Steve quickly offered, "We can send a card?" and that set her off for another five minutes.

Apparently, the only way to mend this fence was to send individualized cards to each of her bees, who were all, individually, very hurt.

"Uh huh," Steve said, hanging up. He wasn't going to do that. The tiny cards on the Troopers' desk said that they were much more afraid of the Bee Lady and her consequences.

The Trooper Station was open and bird free, at least? There was no guarantee an angry swarm of bees wasn't in-bound.
